(Nov.17 Nov.25) "ARTSEEN 8: ANNUAL OFF-SITE SHOWCASE OF NEW & EXPERIMENTAL ART" (Windsor/Detroit area) (Open; unjuried off-site exhibition. Mixed media site installation, interventions and performance)

Location: Former Police Headquarters at Windsor City Hall Square

Throughout its eight year history, "ARTSEEN" has provided a variety of different sites to artists who are interested in installing their work in non-traditional settings. Many of the works in Artseen are site-specific and develop over the duration of the exhibits. Past "Artseen" locations have included a disused warehouse and box factory; a vacant post office and government building; a 1930s-era office building and, in 1999, a former turn-of-the century dairy.

This year's very successful (and massive!)"Artseen 8" was held in the former Windsor Police Headquarters: a three-story, 60,000 square foot facility in the heart of downtown Windsor. The city-owned building featured a labyrinth of raw and finished spaces (including holding cells, offices, interview rooms, forensic labs, property storage vaults, vehicle sally-way, etc.) which the Windsor/Detroit art community quickly filled with site-specific work. This project was made possible with the generous assistance of the Corporation of the City of Windsor, which donated the building free of charge to Artcite Inc. Media coverage was positive and extensive, with the result that over 600 people visited the exhibition during the two-week run (including a large, general public).
