Artcite Inc. is Windsor's non-profit, artist-run centre for the contemporary arts. Founded in 1982, Artcite has operated as an alternative to both the commercial art galleries and to the larger, more mainstream public art galleries. Our mandate goes beyond presenting visual art exhibitions and extends into the programming of workshops, lectures, film and video screenings, performance, and literary events. With the exception of special fundraising projects, these cultural activities are offered to the community free of charge.

Our programming commitment remains with the younger, or emerging artist, and to showing artists that have not shown in this area before. Our commitment to an open transparent artist-run programming process ensures that we show a wide range of media and content and that we reflect the diversity of artists and current art practices in this community and nationally.

Our mandate extends to the promotion of professionalism in the arts. This means that we support the artists we exhibit by paying professional artist fees at nationally established rates. Artcite also offers skills training for our members, contract staff and community volunteers through workshops and projects, including: gallery management, archival research, computer word processing, desk-top publishing and accounting, writing (including grant preparation), visual art documentation and film and video production.
